Liberty Ex

It was already outrageous that GCHQ believed it was entitled to spy on British citizens because our communications were being carried over foreign servers, now our government is trying to change the law so that we can be subjected to continuous, multi-platform surveillance at all times. The simple truth of the matter is that we are the citizens whose liberty and democracy our security services and government are supposed to be protecting and yet our civil rights are being flagrantly abused by them on the flimsiest of pretexts. Such an unprecedented level of state intrusion undermines our freedom at a fundamental level, subjecting us to the kind of monitoring that is generally presumed to be the hallmark of only the most paranoid dictatorships.

Of course, what’s truly chilling is that not only will the spooks now know what we’ve had for dinner, they’ll have actually seen photographs of it. If only the ‘Axis of Evil’ were monitoring these communication channels… they wouldn’t be bothering to try to destroy the West any more – they’d just opt to sit back and wait it out.

About Fles

Early middle-aged (oh yes I am!), no longer long-haired but still speccy and decidedly still an increasingly opinionated git. I’m basically a believer in individualism, that everybody has their own perspective and inner-beauty. I try to find humour in every situation. I enjoy reading and writing poetry.
