The Death of Culture and Civilisation

I see here that the creator of Big Brother, Peter Bazalgette, has been approached by the government and is in talks discussing the possibility of becoming a non-executive director of the Ministry of Culture.

This is the man who almost single-handedly set about initiating the degradation and destruction of civilisation and culture on a global basis, spawning the soulless reality shows which have plagued the last decade whilst making a cult of pseudo-celebrity. If anything, he represents the antithesis of culture.

I suppose this is what you get when government truly represents the population it looks after: idiots pandering to the tastes of idiots. Nonetheless, surely nobody who has ever read George Orwell’s 1984 can be in any doubt of the level of irony being employed by the government in making this suggestion.

On the other hand, this appointment would at least consistent with other existing ministries: the Ministry of Sound has little or nothing to do with promoting music and, in this regard, it has followed the path long-established by the Ministries of Education, Health and Transport.

In other news, the four horsemen of the apocalypse have re-stabled their horses and are now looking for other avenues of employment.

About Fles

Early middle-aged (oh yes I am!), no longer long-haired but still speccy and decidedly still an increasingly opinionated git. I’m basically a believer in individualism, that everybody has their own perspective and inner-beauty. I try to find humour in every situation. I enjoy reading and writing poetry.
