Racists are humourless idiots with low IQs and poor self-esteem. Whilst I realise that this might still appear to cover most of the people around you at any given time, I can assure you that it does not.

Racists generally define themselves by the colour of their skin and the place of their birth, which merely highlights how few other distinguishing characteristics they have of any merit. Worthwhile people define themselves by their personality, their friends, their achievements and their value sets, not by what they are but by what they do and what they contribute.

Each of us touches the lives of others in so many ways, through the smallest acts of kindness, by words, even by smiles and touches. Those among us who define their existence by what they hate are doomed to lives of misery and will only poison the world of those around them. Opening ourselves up to other people and to differing cultures can only serve to enhance our lives.

We are all people, no matter what our beliefs or outlooks, our histories or our origins. Nationality is only an accident of birth: we are all the same, all born equal, just into different circumstances. Breadth of experience of the world and everyone in it is one of the most valuable things we can gain. If there is any point to life, it must be to learn as much as we can through touching the lives of others and gaining a deeper perspective and understanding of the human condition.

Humour is one of the few areas which are common to all races and cultures (except, perhaps, the Germans) and, through its medium, perhaps eventually all peoples will come together, united by a smile. Indeed, it is my fondest hope that Sickipedia will eventually bring an end to war and unite the world in a new era of global peace and harmony. However, in truth, I suspect that I may be being a little optimistic there.

To summarise, if you’re looking for a social group to revile and despise then you’re probably more suited to being the object of that derision rather than the source of it. Not that I’d give you the pleasure of validating your worthless value system by reciprocation.

About Fles

Early middle-aged (oh yes I am!), no longer long-haired but still speccy and decidedly still an increasingly opinionated git. I’m basically a believer in individualism, that everybody has their own perspective and inner-beauty. I try to find humour in every situation. I enjoy reading and writing poetry.
